On June 13, the VFW Post 5913 commemorated their 80th anniversary, and the changing of the charter flag. BOE Trustee and Post 5913 Commander Virgil Capollari asked for help from our RCK students and staff, and they responded without hesitation. At last night’s meeting, he invited several people up to accept commemorative coins, as a show of gratitude from the VFW. Josie Dell’Olio performed a beautiful rendition of the national anthem; Madisyn Spagna accepted a coin on behalf of the Ketcham Keynotes; and WCSD Fine Arts Director Bonnie King accepted one on behalf of the RCK Pep Band. “The students’ participation in this important event is a testament to their special commitment to our nation’s service members,” said Mr. Capollari. Dr. Bonk and RCK principal Mr. Seipp also received coins in recognition of their unwavering support of these partnerships.

So much to celebrate this time of year! At the June 22 BOE meeting, the District thanked our 68 retirees for their many years of dedicated service. BOE Trustees, administrators, and families gathered to celebrate our employees: they are what makes WCSD the fantastic place it is to work, learn, and collaborate. Best wishes to our retirees on their next chapter!

NYS Senator Rob Rolison presented Fishkill Elementary School teacher Flip Gertler with the NYS Senate “Educators Inspiring a Generation” award; it is given to teachers that go above and beyond for their students, thus shaping future generations. Senator Rolison spoke about the powerful impact that teachers have, and his immense gratitude for their important work. Mr. Gertler was nominated by WCSD superintendent Dr. Dwight Bonk, who noted that he had personally witnessed the integral role that Mr. Gertler plays in motivating and inspiring his students. BOE Trustee Peggy Kelland and Fishkill ES Principal Dr. McNally also offered their congratulations!

July 1, 2026

Dear Wappingers CSD Community,

I would like to congratulate our students and their families on an extremely successful and productive school year. We celebrated many joyful “moving up” and graduation ceremonies throughout the district, as our 788 6th graders move up to junior high school; 822 eighth graders move on to high school; and 835 graduates move on to their next chapter.

I remain very grateful for the community’s support of the District, and we will continue to focus on today and plan for tomorrow–together, with all stakeholders. This summer, we will further develop and refine our strategic planning process, and we look forward to engaging with our community this fall regarding the future goals and expectations for the WCSD.

In May of 2025, voters approved a long-term Capital Improvement project,  which will enhance our buildings and improve the student experience. Work on Phase 1 has begun at a variety of sites across the district, and we look forward to keeping the community informed on the progress! View our web page here; we will be updating it during the summer and beyond.

Our district and building administration will still be available this summer, planning for the upcoming year and addressing any needs or concerns you may have–so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I wish you all a most rewarding and productive summer, and look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, September 8

Sincerely,
Dr. Dwight Bonk
