Another fantastic project-based learning collaboration: very proud to partner with Mid Hudson Regional Hospital again! This year, a total of 733 students participated: grades 1,3,4,5, and 6 worked with RCK high school students to create fidget boards that will entertain pediatric patients. These projects don’t just teach STEAM concepts: they develop empathy and build meaningful connections. PBL projects are a priority in our district, and we are very proud to offer them to our students!

Another wonderful PBL celebration this morning! Grade 6 students at Oak Grove ES worked with state Senator Robert Rolison after reviewing his bipartisan letter to the EPA (written with fellow Senator Michelle Hinchey). They explored biodiversity, sustainable water use from the Hudson River, and innovative solutions for the future. Senator Rolison and Dr. Bonk agreed that the caliber of work was what would one would expect from high school or beyond. Incredible work by our students as we continue to prioritize project-based learning.

RCK coaches took 20 members of the Track & Field team to an Honor a Veteran recognition ceremony yesterday, hosted by County Executive Sue Serino and the Office of Veterans Affairs. It was extraordinarily meaningful: one of our former athletes, Jacob Baker, was being recognized for his service to our country. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2023. As a student athlete, Jacob excelled in sprints and represented RCK at the state level in the pole vault. After high school, Jacob chose military service: he had a greater calling to serve our country, by joining the Army. Jacob was hugely respected by both staff and students, showing strong character that served as an example for others." “The ceremony was a great experience for our student athletes, “ said RCK coach Charles Ropes. “I hope it will provide them with some perspective on the value of serving their community and country.

May 19, 2026

Dear Wappingers CSD Community,

I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our community for supporting our two propositions: the 2026-27 Budget and the 2026-27 Bus Purchase. The approval of the 2026-27 Budget will enable us to continue to provide the services and programs our students need and deserve, with a continued emphasis on school safety, mental health services, special education, career and technical education, and the expansion of Universal Pre-K. The approval of our Bus Purchase Proposition allows us to purchase 15 gas and diesel powered vehicles, which increases the amount of in-district bussing available, and moves us closer to our eventual goal of being able to provide all student transportation by WCSD staff in a safe, effective, and efficient manner!

In closing, we will continue to work diligently in providing a positive school environment, inclusive of all of our students and staff, that is safe, supportive, and promotes the highest degree of academic, social, and emotional development, while offering our students an array of opportunities to prepare them for the future and providing necessary and key supports when needed.  We look forward to continuing our work together in collaboration with all stakeholders throughout the Wappingers CSD, as we focus on today and plan for tomorrow!

With sincere gratitude,

Dr. Dwight Bonk

Project-Based Learning

Real-World Problems, Real-Life Solutions

In PBL projects, our students take an active role in the process: they ask questions, develop designs, and see their projects come to life.  Partnerships inside and outside our schools take learning to new levels.
