Action Plan for Goal 1

In taking the first steps to make WCSD an exemplary district, WCSD's administration and all members of the teaching and support staff shall work as a team to attain student performance levels at each school that exceed those of similar schools as defined by SED.

August - October

  • COS staff will provide individual school performance reports on the most recently administered State tests (i.e. the Grade 4 and Grade 8 ELA and Math tests; Regents examinations)
  • Principals will share data comparing their school to similar schools at the first faculty meetings of the school year

September - October

  • After reviewing the student performance data for State tests, each school will develop an action plan to improve their performance on each test administered in their school
  • Principals and coordinators will review best practices of as many high performing similar schools as possible and share their findings with appropriate staff
  • The Board will review the various measures available in WCSD and the data analyses conducted by the staff and determine if modifications and or additions to the district's performance standards are warranted

November - December

  • The staff will share proposals for programs and/or services that may need to be budgeted in 2002-03 to improve the performance of WCSD schools. These proposals will be shared with Board Committees and/or the Board itself

May - June

  • The staff will provide a status report on the implementation of the action plans developed in each WCSD school
  • The staff will issue a report outlining the progress toward the attainment of the performance standards set forth at the outset of the year

September, 2002 (assuming SED can deliver on its promise)

  • The staff will release the results of the Grade 8 ELA and math tests and the Grade 4 Math tests
