The Wappingers Central School District’s Board of Education is seeking ten community members to serve as at-large members on a district steering committee. The committee will be comprised of approximately 60 individuals representing a cross-section of district stakeholders. The committee will serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Education and will be charged with the responsibility of developing options for the board’s consideration in the development of a district master plan.The purpose of the master plan will be to:

• Review existing facilities from an educational point of view
• Develop an understanding of the district’s educational goals and needs
• Build scenarios to align facilities with goals and needs
• Work with the district architect to suggest possible facility changes to implement different scenarios

Some of the possible outcomes as a result of the plans development:

• Changes in school use or population
• Grade realignment
• Improvement of existing and/or construction of new facilities
• Expansion of programs and/or services
• Bond referendum

Interested community members should send a letter of interest to the attention of the Superintendent of Schools stating relevant qualifications as a basis for the interest being expressed. The letter should contain a daytime telephone number and e-mail address. Letters can be sent via e-mail to rpowell@do.wcsd.dcboces.org or delivered to 29 Marshall Road, Hollowbrook Park, Building #3, Wappingers Falls NY 12590. Deadline for submittals will be 5:00p.m. on Monday, October 20th. Individuals will be selected based upon a review of the qualifications submitted and will be advised of their selection no later than Friday, October 24th.

The first committee meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, October 30th at a district location to be determined. The time of our initial meeting will be from 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. For planning purposes, individuals desiring to serve on this committee should be prepared to attend two such meetings a month thru at least April 2004.
