APPLYING FOR YOUR FIRST 3-YEAR CERTIFICATE ..... [top of the page]

The Wappingers Central School District and the Wappingers Congress of Teachers have jointly developed an in-house certificate relating to the use of technology in our instructional program. All WCT teachers are eligible to apply for the certificate. The certificate is valid for three years, as long as the recipient remains eligible by meeting certain criteria, and carries an annual stipend of $2,500.

Candidates apply as individuals and not with someone else or as a team. While the ACIT committee strongly supports instructional collaboration as a general principle, the projects and materials candidates bring to the committee for an individual certificate should represent their work and show off their skills and knowledge.

Briefly, in order to qualify for the certificate, a candidate must:

  1. Complete an application.
  2. Complete a portfolio of specified technology integration tasks;
  3. Demonstrate ongoing growth in technology knowledge;
  4. Develop a plan of ongoing technology assistance by which the applicant provides regular assistance to other staff members; and
  5. Present a completed portfolio/plan before a formal peer review panel. (The peer review is based on the Learning Experience Outline (LEO) process utilized under the New York State Academy for Teaching and Learning (NYSATL) program.)

Applicants should make sure that they have fully covered all certificate requirements either directly in the presentation they will make to the committee or in materials they present to the committee for its separate review. These materials can be in printed or electronic format (the committee leaves the final decision up to the candidate's ingenuity and sense of style and substance). Candidates may submit these materials at the time of their presentation or send them to the Technology and Assessment office prior to that meeting. If they do the latter, they can send the materials in several batches. They do not have to wait until they have everything ready to go.

Candidates do not have to speak about every one of the certificate requirements when they meet with the committee, but they do have to document how they have met each one. To assist with this, the committee has prepared a candidate form check-off list. Candidates should bring 10 completed copies of it with them to their committee presentation.

Current certificate holders have volunteered to meet with certificate candidates, review application materials, and offer general guidance. Please contact the Office of Technology, Testing, and Assessment if you would like to take advantage of this offer or if you have any questions.

APPLYING FOR A 3-YEAR CERTIFICATE EXTENSION .....
[top of the page]

The extension process is a variation on the original application routine, as follows:

  • Complete certain tasks on the extension check-off list [pdf or MS Word format]. The list is the same one applicants used when applying for their original certificate. For the purposes of certificate extension, applicants must complete one specific item from each of the six categories on the list plus any other six items, for a total of 12 (out of the 22 items on the list).
  • Describe the applicant's current plan of ongoing technology and assess its impact.
  • Present a new or revised plan.
All material should be submitted to the review committee at least seven days prior to meeting with the committee.
