The "one room Schoolhouse" was used as a school until 1939. It was originally built in 1812. It held one teacher and students in grades 1-8. Usually there were approximately 20 students attending. There was no electricity and the school was heated by a potbelly stove. Water was obtained from an outside pump.
The school was originally on the corner of Spring Road and Route 9 and was moved to the current site in 1971. It had not been maintained and was in poor condition. The renovation was done by a number of community members, who hoped to make the building into a community museum.
The building is now used regularly for classes. Special events, such as Colonial Day, are also held there. Tours have been given to Boy Scout troops when they are studying about local history. Plans are now in place to restore some of the materials in the Schoolhouse and open it up for a community event. It is hoped that eventually it will be open at various times during the year for public tours.
