Fishkill Plains PTA - Meeting Minutes - Feb 16, 2004

A regular meeting of the Fishkill Plains Elementary PTA was held in the school's Library on Wednesday, February 16 at 9:15am.
The PTA Board who were present are:

Absent were:
TREASURER: Linda Ritter
VICE-PRESIDENT:OF MEMBERSHIP: Clara Riviere

There were 22 in attendance.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT : Lisa Ruvo  asked for review and approval of  the minutes from 12/8/04 meeting.  They were approved.  Please remember to use
email or the PTA voice mail at 223-5359 with any ideas/concerns.

PRINCIPAL'S REPORT: Mrs. Epstein reported ELA testing is done.  Math testing is coming up.  The Social Studies results were excellent.  Mrs. Epstein's weekly newsletter is posted on the web site.  The 6th grade may or may not be remaining at Fishkill Plains in to be installed modular classrooms.  A decision has not been made yet. 

TEACHER LIAISON: Mrs. Plambeck reported that the Playground was excellent, but access to it at this time of year is rather muddy;  perhaps a gravel path could be considered.  Memos have been being copied for one memo per family to save paper; this is inconvenient for some teachers.  We will go back to one memo per student.

COMMITTEE VP REPORT: Traci had reported that the final copy of the Student Directory has been distributed.  It lists all students in the school, phone numbers, addresses, parent's names, children's names and grade.

MEMBERSHIP REPORT:  Clara Riviere  was absent.

CORRESPONDING SECRETARY REPORT:  Jo Anderson reported Mrs. Bohlinger sent a Thank You for the gift for her baby from the PTA.

TREASURER'S REPORT:  There were copies of  the Profit and Loss Budget vs. Actual Report for distribution.  The bank account balance is at $19,740.
The After School clubs brought in about $7000 (before expenses).  Profits will be donated to the Track and Playground.

NEWSLETTER:
       The newsletter is being done Laurie Treacy.  The latest newsletter should be mailed home next week.  Please continue to send her school related articles, school news, pictures, thank you's... at   LLTDesign@optonline.net.  Feb 28th is the deadline.

PLAYGROUND CANDY/FOAM AND WASH  FUNDRAISERS:
    Foam and Wash phase I is done; 200 books were sold which equates to $800 for the playground.   Nancy Buck encouraged families to participate in the chocolate bar fund raiser.  It is very easy to sell a box at work or a sporting/scouting  event.  Please sell one box before opening a second or third since unopened boxes can be returned.  If additional boxes are needed after the initial shipment, we have a contact to get them.

BOOKFAIR
       The BOGOF Book Fair will be held in the gym Apr 28 and 29.  We won a $500 gift certificate in the Scholastic "SCRAPPING CONTEST".  We will be getting our scrap book back to display; it was truly phenomenal and we thank EVERYONE who participated and helped.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
    Peggy Farrington has done an awesome job compiling and coordinating so many interesting clubs.  We have 245 kids enrolled which is just shy of maximum capacity.

GARDEN COMMITTEE BAKE SALES
    Dianne Aquilino reported the sale will be Feb 25th.  Dianne, Carol Geraci and Dawn Haecker  raised $170 at the first sale in January and hope to also have a sale in March.  Thank you to all bakers!

LESSONS BEFORE BEDTIME
    Lessons before bedtime will be march 2nd 7-8pm and will be run by Miss Marino.

SENIOR CITIZEN BREAKFAST
    The breakfast will be March 18th 9:15-10:30; it is open first to the East Fishkill Senior Center.   Kim Busche and Eva Sanzo have set up a lot of nice food and some Irish Dance entertainment.

BINGO/DESSERT FAMILY FUN NIGHT
    This fun night will be held March 18th 7-9pm.  We have made improvements in a better microphone, a white board to write the numbers as they are called and plenty of bingo markers.

SCIENCE FAIR
    The 5th grade science fair will be help March 19th.  There are 25 participants.

FP SCIENCE FAIR AND OPEN HOUSE
    This is open to K-4th graders and will be held March 17th.

TALENT SHOW
    Parent help on the Talent show night as well as pre-show coordination is needed.

TASTY TEMPTATIONS FUNDRAISER
    This Spring fundraiser will include cookie dough, cheesecake, pretzels, coffee.  It will benefit the year end field day event.

MOVING UP DAY
    Fourth Grade parents are needed to help and organize the 5th Grade Moving up day breakfast.

Meeting was adjourned at 10:40am.  Next meeting will be March 23rd at 7:00pm.
