Grade 1

Abilities Outcomes
1. Students develop abilities in analysis, inquiry and design.
A.Students engage in observing, predicting, describing, comparing, and revising their ideas and
solutions about a variety of investigations.
B.Students design and implement plans for collecting and analyzing data about properties of objects,
fall harvest fruits, and animal life cycles.

2. Students develop math abilities.
A.Students create, read, and interpret graphs and charts.

3. Students develop communication abilities
A.Students collaborate to create an organized and safe environment for science learning by establishing
classroom rules and demonstrating cooperative learning behaviors.
B.Students develop communication and cooperative group skills as they discuss and share their
findings.

Content Outcomes
1. Students understand and apply properties of objects to everyday life.
A.Students identify, describe, and differentiate among properties and attributes of objects.
B.Students apply their knowledge of properties and attributes of objects to the fall harvest fruits.

2. Students understand and apply the phases of matter to everyday life.
A.Students observe, describe, and classify the properties of solids, liquids, and gases (matter).
B.Students apply their knowledge of the properties of matter to the food that they eat.

3. Students understand the life cycles of animals.
A.Students observe and describe properties of living organisms.
B.Students classify living and non-living things according to their properties.
C.Students investigate and create an environment for a snail.
