No school for students on Mon., 10/13.
Picture retakes - 10/29 at the Old School Store. Remind students that they will need to bring in their old photo packets if they would like to have their pictures retaken. Also remind them to dress appropriately. All teachers need to have their pictures taken for the yearbook. If you did not have your picture taken last time, please stop by when you have a chance. Students should come down during their LUNCH PERIODS. Their pass will be their old picture packet or the money envelope for an original. Students taking pictures for the 1st time this year can get a pictureenvelope in Room 111 or the main office.

PARENTS: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please remind your student(s) to bring in change to donate. Cans are located throughout the building.
Any seventh grader who has had a physical by their own doctor, the forms are now due in the Health Office. Please bring them to the Health Office as soon as possible.
Please donate winter coats and jackets for men, women and children by the end of October to benefit Dutchess Outreach. There is a deposit box in the main office. Urgently needed are kids and plus size coats.
School Dance: Student Government will be having the first dance of the year on Fri., 10/24. We are selling tickets for our dance during ALL lunch periods from 10/14-17. We are looking for parent volunteers to help sell tickets during lunch periods. If you could do any or all times please e-mail kelly.clausson@wappingerssschools.org or ann.liebergot@wappingersschools.org. Thank you in advance for all of your cooperation with the SGA of Van Wyck. Attention All 8th Grade Students: If you would like to submit a baby picture for the 2008-2009 Yearbook, now is the time. You may drop off your Baby Picture in Room 219, in the 8th Grade Baby Pictures Box. The picture should be no smaller than wallet size and no larger than 4x6. Photos not within this size cannot be accepted. Please PRINT your NAME and HOMEROOM NUMBER on the back. Photos will be sent directly to the Yearbook Company and will not be returned to you. Deadline to submit your photo is Oct. 20. There will not be any exceptions!
A community volunteer group offers
free math tutoring and homework assistance. It will be at Van Wyck on
Wednesdays.

Lost and found items are in the main lobby. If you'd like to come in and search, come in ay time from 7:30am to 3pm. Jewelry, cell phones, glasses, etc. are in the main office.

There will be an informational meeting for all those who are interested in being a part of the John Jay Gymnastics team on 10/14 at 6pm. We will meet outside the John Jay Gymnasium. Please bring a parent with you.
Winter sports physicals will be given on 10/21. If you are interested in trying out for boys or girls basketball, wrestling, or cheerleading, please stop by the Nurse's office for a permission slip.
Girls JV and Varsity Basketball - there will be an open gym for any girl interested in playing JV and Varsity Basketball at JJHS Monday and Wednesday nights from 6 to 7:30. Any questions please see Mr. Brooks.
The John Jay girls basketball team will be holding a beginning of the season clinic to help prepare for the upcoming season. It will be held Saturday, 11/8 from 10 am to 2 pm. It is for any girl in 6th-9th grade. For more information please see Mr. Brooks or your PE teacher.
PREPARE FOR YOUR SCHOOL BASKETBALL
TRYOUTS - 4 Day Basketball Clinic
Fishkill Recreation will begin registration for a 4 day Basketball Clinic
for boys and girls in the 7th and 8th grade.
Registration will began 10/6 and it is open to boys and girls in
7th & 8th grade. The clinic will be held at Brinckerhoff Elementary
School on Saturdays, Nov. 1, 8, 15, and 22 - 12-1:30pm. The clinic will be
just prior to school tryouts. We will focus on preparing players to tryout
for their school team. Focus will be on the fundamental skills of basketball
that coaches will be looking at when making his/her selections. The clinic
will utilize a combination of drills, demonstration, and scrimmages, that
will give players the opportunity to improve and learn the game of
basketball. The cost is $50 per player. WE NEED A MINIMUM OF 15 PLAYERS TO
