ADOPTING
HALF MOON (AGAIN) & MIDNIGHT
- IT'S OFFICIAL!
- (we have the paper
work to prove it!)
(Mrs. Solomon & Miss
Inkeles holding up the adoption papers)
As a part of the
whaling adventure, Mrs. Solomon's class adopted a male humpback
whale named Half Moon (also the name of Henry Hudson's ship!)
back in 2001-2002 with funds from the PIE Grant from the Community
Foundation of Dutchess County. Half Moon is an East Coast whale
that shows off in the water with his amazing breaching technique.
Mrs. Solomon's 2002-2003 class decided to continue the adoption
of Half Moon by contributing their own money. This year's class
was thrilled to carry on the support of Half Moon with the funds
of a new PIE Grant, especially since he has been a part of Whalentine's
Day since the beginning. However, this year's class is such a
group of budding environmentalists, they wanted to adopt another
whale by contributing thier own money! After great discussion,
they decided on the female humpback, Midnight, who is also an
East Coast whale.
Half Moon & Midnight
are being adopted through the "Whale Adoption Project."
The project presents 28 East and West Coast whales from which
the students choose.
