A Message from the Superintendent
April 16, 2026
At their April 13 meeting, the Board of Education approved the 2026-27 Budget and Transportation Purchase propositions; view my presentation here. For the fifth consecutive year, our proposed budget remains under the tax cap, sustaining the vital programs and services added over the years, ensuring that our students receive what they need and deserve all we remain fiscally responsible to our taxpayers. The budget being presented to Wappingers CSD voters contains a tax levy increase of 2.59%.
The approved Transportation Purchase proposition allows for the purpose of 25 new gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles (15 replacements and 10 new additions). At this time, I remain deeply concerned about the rollout of the New York State mandate to transition to electric vehicles. Although I support this eventual transition, I have serious reservations about the timeline and cannot recommend that District commit taxpayer dollars to this until it is reexamined and studied further.
I want to thank the Board of Education, as well as the faculty, staff, families, and residents who shared their priorities and suggestions. It helped us craft a budget that serves our students and is still fiscally responsible, remaining under the tax cap. Please continue to reach out to us with questions or comments at budget@wcsdny.org.
Our students are working hard and making us proud every day. I encourage our families and community to visit our calendar page for opportunities to see them shine! You’ll find game schedules, concert and theater performances, honor society inductions, and more.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dwight Bonk
Superintendent of Schools
