Oak Grove ES fourth-graders took a trip to Albany to visit the State Museum and the Capital Building! Senator Rolison took time to speak with all the students and take some photos, including this one with Mrs. Lawrence's class.

RCK coaches took 20 members of the Track & Field team to an Honor a Veteran recognition ceremony yesterday, hosted by County Executive Sue Serino and the Office of Veterans Affairs. It was extraordinarily meaningful: one of our former athletes, Jacob Baker, was being recognized for his service to our country. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2023. As a student athlete, Jacob excelled in sprints and represented RCK at the state level in the pole vault. After high school, Jacob chose military service: he had a greater calling to serve our country, by joining the Army. Jacob was hugely respected by both staff and students, showing strong character that served as an example for others." “The ceremony was a great experience for our student athletes, “ said RCK coach Charles Ropes. “I hope it will provide them with some perspective on the value of serving their community and country.

The rain didn’t keep John Jay HS from holding a beautiful and moving Memorial Day ceremony, honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Speakers included Lance Ashworth of American Legion Post 1758, and Virgil Capollari, US Air Force veteran and BOE Trustee. Dr. Bonk and Principal Kedzielawa encouraged students to take a moment to reflect this weekend, honor our fallen heroes, and appreciate the freedoms they secured through their sacrifice.

Beautiful Memorial Day ceremony this morning at RCK: students were reminded that this weekend is meant to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Speakers included George Hemroth of VFW Post 5913, and RCK valedictorian Jack McCarthy, who has been accepted into the US Naval Academy. WCSD superintendent Dr. Bonk and Wappinger Town Supervisor Cavaccini also spoke at the event, thanking our veterans and honoring those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Eighth-grade students at Wappingers Junior High School had a special visitor: Marisa Renee Lee, a bestselling author, grief advocate, Harvard grad, former appointee in the Obama White House–and proud Wappingers CSD alumna. In addition to administrators, Lee was joined by Maliya Taylor, president of the John Jay HS Black Student Union, as well as WJHS student government representatives.

May 19, 2026

Dear Wappingers CSD Community,

I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our community for supporting our two propositions: the 2026-27 Budget and the 2026-27 Bus Purchase. The approval of the 2026-27 Budget will enable us to continue to provide the services and programs our students need and deserve, with a continued emphasis on school safety, mental health services, special education, career and technical education, and the expansion of Universal Pre-K. The approval of our Bus Purchase Proposition allows us to purchase 15 gas and diesel powered vehicles, which increases the amount of in-district bussing available, and moves us closer to our eventual goal of being able to provide all student transportation by WCSD staff in a safe, effective, and efficient manner!

In closing, we will continue to work diligently in providing a positive school environment, inclusive of all of our students and staff, that is safe, supportive, and promotes the highest degree of academic, social, and emotional development, while offering our students an array of opportunities to prepare them for the future and providing necessary and key supports when needed.  We look forward to continuing our work together in collaboration with all stakeholders throughout the Wappingers CSD, as we focus on today and plan for tomorrow!

With sincere gratitude,

Dr. Dwight Bonk

Project-Based Learning

Real-World Problems, Real-Life Solutions

In PBL projects, our students take an active role in the process: they ask questions, develop designs, and see their projects come to life.  Partnerships inside and outside our schools take learning to new levels.
