Minutes – April 29, 2026
2026-2027 DW Safety Plan Draft: Mr. Lolkema explained that the current planned on our website revised for the January 2026 update with cardiac care information included has been reviewed by PNW BOCES and there are no recommended changes for the 2026-27 DW Safety Plan. We will move forward with the current plan as a draft for next years plan.
DW Safety Committee Charter: Mrs Johnson requested we review the committee charter. Mr. Lolkema brought up the charter for committee member comments. No changes were recommended.
JJHS Reunification Drill Review / Next Steps: Mr. Lolkema explained that this years drill at JJHS went really well and that the District believes we are ready to engage with our parents and have parent and student volunteers participate in a drill at some point next year. The committee was in full support of this concept with multiple committee members asking to participate.
Fire Watch and New Construction: Mr. Lolkema discussed the NYSED requirement to retrain staff members on how to conduct a fire watch should a building fire alarm go offline either in whole or in part for any reason during the school day. We spoke about future construction projects and how fire watch may be needed from time to time during our new construction at our jr high schools.
Fire Alarm System and SSBA: Vassar Rd ES has been identified as the school to receive a new fire alarm system using SSBA funds. Planning for this work is ongoing.
Grant Opportunities: Mr. Lolkema explained the ESD / SVP grant we applied for through NYS. This grant will allow for additional behavior health services for our students as well as new hardware for cameras and PA systems at 7 of our schools. We are waiting to see if we get awarded the grant.
Deshas Law and AED DrillsTBD: Mr. Lolkema reviewed the new cardiac emergency procedures prescribed under Desha's law, and explained how schools are now drilling for cardiac emergencies for compliance.
